The Exumas are a collection of 365 cays strewn over 120-miles of stunning blue-green water. While some cays are private islands owned by luxury resorts or celebrities such as Johnny Depp and Faith Hill, most are unoccupied and home mainly to native vegetation and wildlife. Great Exuma, a laidback island featuring idyllic beaches and a wide selection of restaurants and bars, anchors the archipelago and is the most populated of the cays. The Exumas provide one of the loveliest settings for boating, fishing and snorkeling with its shallow, clear waters that reveal coral and sea fans scattered across the white sand bottom. A must-see for divers and snorkelers is Mystery Cave, a 400-foot, deep blue hole which begins at 15 feet below the surface, but rapidly drops to 100 feet. Another highlight for many travelers is the opportunity to frolic in the sea with the famous swimming pigs at Major Cay, a good daytrip option from Great Exuma. Exuma is a 90-minute flight from South Florida.
